Civil Division
This is the information page for the Civil division. The Civil division handles all cases that qualify as Torts, Mass Torts, Professional Liability actions, Contract actions, Real Property actions, Civil appeals, and other matters between private individuals as parties.
Assigned Judges
In 2022, Civil division cases are assigned to either Judge Gary M. Gilman or Judge Michael J. Lucas. Some cases may be specially assigned to other Judges by the Court Administrator as needed.
Civil Motions Court
Motions on cases assigned to a particular judge should be presented to that Judge pursuant to his or her motions court practice. Motions on unassigned civil cases are to be presented to the Judge of the Term. Judge Lucas is the Judge of the Term from the 1st to the 15th. Judge Gilman is the Judge of the Term from the 16th to the 31st.
Civil Motions Court is held pursuant to each judge's specified motions schedule.

Trial List
The civil trial lists are generated based on a number of factors, including the age of the case and when discovery closed. The case number is not a reflection of when a case may be tried - your trial date will be set by the assigned judge. At this time, the trial list is being managed by each assigned Judge. Your trial will be scheduled as part of the case management process. Contact the Deputy Court Administrator for information on the case management system.
Arguments Court
All dispositive motions, including Preliminary Objections, Motions for Judgment on the Pleadings, and Motions for Summary Judgment, shall be heard as part of regularly scheduled Arguments Court. The Arguments Court list is closed and published thirty (30) days out from the date of argument. All listed argument court dates are final for the calendar year.
